How to start an SEO project

As I’ve recently launched my SEO consultancy and the work has started coming in, I thought I’d share some insights into how I approach a new project. And to make this hard for myself, I’ve removed any SEO jargon…

So here we go – this is my process when starting a new SEO project.

01. Get to know the business

I start by chatting with the client to understand their goals and challenges. This helps me know what the website needs to succeed.

02. Check the website

Next, I look at the website closely. I check for any problems that might stop it from showing up in search results and see where improvements can be made.

03. Find the right words

I research the words and phrases people use when searching online. This step is about finding out what potential users are looking for so that the website can use those words.

04. Make a plan

With all the information, I create a clear plan. This plan lists the changes needed, like fixing website issues, adding helpful content, and making sure the right words are used, to help the site appear higher in search results.

05. Adjust as required

Finally, I put the plan into action. I make the changes, keep an eye on the results, and adjust the strategy if needed to keep the website growing its audience.

Is that it?

Seems simple with the jargon stripped out, doesn’t it? And if you look closely, these steps demonstrate that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to increasing website visibility on Google.
